Safe Custody


This course will equip staff with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage offenders in environments such as court locations, during transportation and during initial reception. Sessions include roles and responsibilities of custody managers, security issues, critical incidents, drug and alcohol issues as well as the management of offenders who are suicidal or identified as at risk.

 

Topics include:

  • Suicide awareness
  • Role of the Custody Manager
  • Alcohol and other drugs
  • Mental Health issues
  • Managing Offenders with disabilities
  • Cultural awareness
  • The reception, screening and induction process
  • Role of the Coroner

 

Completion of this course will result in a Statement of Training available via the LMS.​

Course duration:

3 days face to face

Target group:

Correctional staff working in court environments, Court Escort Security Units and centres with new reception/screening facilities            

Training unit:

Custodial Training Unit            

Note: All custodial staff working in Court, escorts and reception are required to complete the online Safe Custody Refresher training every 12 months.
