Mental Health First Aid

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until the appropriate professional treatment is available or until the crisis resolves. The aims of MHFA are to: preserve life where a person may be a danger to themselves or others; provide help to prevent the mental health problem developing into a more serious state; promote recovery of good mental health; and provide comfort to a person suffering a mental illness. MHFA is not a course specific to corrections as it is delivered in a variety of settings and contexts throughout Australia and internationally. Completion of this course will result in a Statement of Training.
